Welcome to 'De Orde der Noorderwind'

Sword-Art Association de Orde der Noorderwind (The Order of the Northern Wind) is a group of over 50 enthusiastic people who share a passion for the Medieval European Martial Arts. The members of the association want to emanate and keep alive this cultural heritage by practicing these arts.

The association focuses on creating exciting, impressive and spectacular (sword)fighting spectacles that take both young and old back to a long-lost time of kingly knights, wandering crusaders and ruthless mercenaries.

In order to realise these shows the Order trains her program weekly. The dual purposes of training are on the one hand the gaining of knowledge and skill in the Medieval Martial Arts, and on the other hand the composition and practicing of fight choreographies.

Insight in this kind of choreography has been acquired through courses given by the French Weapons instructor and fight choreographer Laurent Bernard, who gained his knowledge through an elaborate study of the manuscripts left behind by Medieval Masters of Arms. Using the techniques described in these works, realistic choreographies can be created for Medieval Combat spectacles.

Laurent Bernard also presides over the yearly Summer Course Medieval Martial Arts that the Order presents.

In addition to our fighting shows, the association also offers, amongst other things, workshops and demonstrations, which can be attuned to practically any target audience and event. More information on our offerings can be found under bookings.

De Orde der Noorderwind is located centrally in Utrecht, but is active throughout the Netherlands. Our members train every Sunday, and certain training sessions are open for audience. At the moment, the Order trains at Muiderslot Castle every first Sunday of each month. This is done with steel swords, and in full medieval outfit. Of course, spectators are more than welcome to attend any of our appearances.

If you have any questions or comments regarding our shows, or other activities, please leave a message in our Guest book, or contact us.
